Domestic Sewing Skills Program

Program Overview

  • 12 weeks per Certificate program
  • 3 sessions per week
  • 3 hours per session
  • 6 to 8 participants per cohort
  • Manual and materials included in program fees

Program Details

  • Learn how to to use a domestic sewing machine and Serger
  • Hand stitching different types of fabrics (cotton, knit, silk, chiffon, lace)
  • Securing fasteners (buttons, snaps, zippers)
  • How to sew darts, hems, sleeves, collars, and pockets
  • Pressing and quality control
  • Alterations, repairs, and how to correct the fit of a garment

WorkBC funding

To be eligible for WorkBC funding, all participants must:

  • Self-identify as a person with a disability or mental health issue (documentation and/or diagnosis is beneficial but not necessary)
  • Be age 16 and above
  • Not be on EI
  • Be a person in need of training for employment
